Welland Bio Power Ltd

Cobalt Energy, through its wholly owned subsidiary Welland Operations Limited (WOL) took over the operations and maintenance service of the Welland Biomass Power Limited (WBPL) plant in August 2020. The takeover of this plant marked Cobalt Energy’s first entry to providing operation and maintenance services of power generation facilities.

The Welland plant is the sister plant of Birmingham Bio Power Limited (BBPL), also operated by Cobalt Energy, providing unique opportunities for information sharing and performance benchmarking.

The contract awarded by WBPL is a services contract with pass through of all operational costs. Since commencing the operation of the facility, WOL (and Cobalt Energy) improved the operation of the facility, achieving an availability of 74% with power generation of over 40,000 MWh annually.
