Feasibility Studies and 
Technology Selection

Cobalt Energy works with many providers of technology into the Waste and Biomass sectors and in other areas of renewable energy production and biomass processing. We have extensive experience in delivering the studies required to give assurance that a project is feasible, bankable and that robust and efficient technology is used.

Front End Engineering Design (FEED)

Front End Engineering Design (FEED) studies ensure that a project is efficient and robustly specified and aims to prevent issues arising at the interfaces between equipment. A robust and diligent FEED study reduces potential for problems during the delivery and operation of a project and removes risk for funders and owners.

Detailed Design, Plant/Equipment Selection and Procurement

Detailed design follows a FEED study and is the process of specifying all of the equipment in the detail required for construction and assembly. Designs may vary due to equipment selection and availability, and it is essential that technology selection and procurement is undertaken by a knowledgeable and experienced contractor.

Risk Management Services HAZOP / ALM / Risk Registers

Cobalt Energy has conducted numerous process and health and safety based studies for our clients. These are intended to ensure that the final design of the process plant has considered the major risks to employees and people and protects the equipment itself. HAZOP is an essential process to deliver a safe and effective plant.

Owners / Lenders Engineer Services

Cobalt has extensive experience in the waste and renewables sectors and we are ideally placed as an independent advocate for clients in multiple sectors. Undertaking an OE/LE role means acting on behalf of the client to ensure both that contractors deliver and that problems are quickly identified and corrected. Our team can add value throughout the life of a project to ensure clients receive proper guidance from the planning stage through to delivery.

Project and Engineering Package Management

As part of an EPCm delivery model or as a supplier to another project, Cobalt can deliver package management and engineering services to discrete parts of any project. Our team has experience of delivering packages from ash bunker dewatering for an Energy from Waste facility to the delivery of bespoke recycling lines for an MSW AD project among many others.

Commissioning Preparation and Coordination

Commissioning is one of the most critical parts of any process build and it is essential to ensure that the programme is realistic and properly designed in order that any issues can be managed and corrected without leading to delays to the project. Cobalt Energy has delivered commissioning services to new build and revamped facilities in the Waste and Biomass sectors.

EPC / EPCm

Lenders and owners of projects need a reliable and competent delivery partner. Cobalt Energy can provide expert project delivery via EPC and EPCM contract models, our experience in the sector includes the delivery of Energy from Waste and other process plant, and through work in the sector we have a keen understanding of the issues which can cause delay and complication to a project. 


Our skills and experience enable our clients to deliver their projects on time and budget. Our operational experience allows us to provide additional services and consider issues of operability during the design and build phase of a project.
