COBALT ENERGY’S ROLE

This former waste incinerator site in rural Worcestershire had been derelict and unused since 1995. It had a range of design and planning restrictions and requirements via a Certificate of Lawfulness of Proposed Use or Development (known as a CLOPUD). It has been sympathetically transformed into a new modern facility to process UK sourced clinical waste from the regional hospitals and healthcare providers.

Cobalt Energy led the delivery of this new Clinical Waste Incineration facility under an EPC arrangement providing the design, engineering, technology integration, construction services together with the provision of the Balance of Plant. EPC Contract value for Cobalt Energy was £7m with the remainder covered by another EPC contract between the technology provider (Incinco) and the client.

Notice to proceed was issued in Spring 2019 and works progressed well throughout 2019. Despite this progress, the many challenges caused by the Covid-19 restrictions during 2020 inevitably lead to some delays. The plant is complete and is undergoing commissioning with commercial operations commencing Q1 2021. The first five years of Operation and Maintenance will be delivered by a new Cobalt Energy business, Malvern Operations Limited.
